Welcome, Alumni!

The LLYC Alumni Program exists to help former campers and staff members continue the important relationships and life changes that came about during your summers in the Frio Canyon. We share the mission and vision of The H. E. Butt Family Foundation, which exists to serve God by providing opportunities for people to encounter God for the transformation of daily life, work, and our world.

Sir Matt Roe

How many summers did you spend in the Canyon?  We never really called it “The Canyon” back in the ‘80s, but I’m slowly getting used to that.  I spent 13 summers in a row at LLYC, from 1980 to 1992.  I started out as a camper at Singing Hills and my last year as a camper at Echo Valley was in 1985.  I was a camper in Cabin 4 for 3 years in a row […]

Houston, We Have Alums!

Last Thursday, a fun crowd of LLYC Alums gathered for an evening at The Del in Houston. Several generations of campers and staff were represented and, as always, fun was definitely had.            Here are a few words from several attendees: “I am so thankful for LLYC reunions! I can’t say how great it is to get together with old friends and reminisce about our times in the Canyon. Getting together […]

Martha & Gaines

Gaines and I met during staff week at Echo Valley in 2012. I was returning for my second summer as a photographer and Gaines had never been to LLYC, but decided to ditch his summer internship to be a programmer with his best friend, Hunter Beauchamp. Let me just say… this new guy did not go unnoticed and quickly rose to the top of our cabin’s camp crush list! Since we were both on the […]

The Whites: A Second-Generation LLYC Love Story

Half of our story started waayyy back in 1986 when Stan Whites and Tina Grant fell in love at Echo Valley.  Their story isn’t mine to tell, but they married and had two sons, Dayton and Sloan, both of whom were campers and later counselors at LLYC. My love story begins in the Summer of 2009.  Dayton Whites and I were both counselors at Singing Hills.  I remember him as the new counselor who always […]

WesselLOVE: Kelsie spills the beans!

As the officiant of our wedding, Chandler Pruitt made this statement to everyone in attendance: “Kevin gives hope for every guy out there – that you can escape the friend zone.” Some people have to literally crawl their way out of the friend zone, but I credit the strength of our friendship to the depth of relationship we have now. I think the Lord knew that we needed eight years of friendship for us to […]

Swantner Love (Daniel and Sarah’s Love Story)

Daniel and Sarah met in the summer of 2005 when they were both 15. She was in Cabin E and he was in Lighthouse. Daniel was what you might call a Laity Lodge “lifer”, spending every summer at camp since he was 6. Sarah had been only coming to LLYC since Cabin (2001). Sarah says, “We may have met sooner, but Daniel had originally been a session 1 camper. Due to sports, he had to […]
