Welcome, Alumni!

The LLYC Alumni Program exists to help former campers and staff members continue the important relationships and life changes that came about during your summers in the Frio Canyon. We share the mission and vision of The H. E. Butt Family Foundation, which exists to serve God by providing opportunities for people to encounter God for the transformation of daily life, work, and our world.

The Theology of Technology (or that time my kid took Lego Robotics at LLFC)

My son signed up for a Lego Robotics session last summer during our week at LLFC. After a morning of biking and swimming, I was expecting another fun activity to fill a very hot afternoon. But it was so much more than that. Not only did my son love every second of this activity, but I (as a parent) was moved when I heard Marcus Goodyear (a full-time staffer from the Kerrville office and parent […]

2018 Adopt-A-Staff Stories

Somehow summer 2018 at LLYC has ended and the counselors are now gearing back up for school. LLYC Alumni wants to thank everyone who participated in our Adopt-A-Staff program this summer. Brigette McCann Moore

How many summers did you spend in the Canyon? I spent a total of six consecutive summers at LLYC! I never ventured outside of Echo Valley, and did all my jobs in two’s. I was a counselor for two summers, Round Up Coordinator for another two, then Girls Director for the final two. What are you up to these days? These days I live in Austin (the best city in the world), am married to […]

Kansas

How many summers did you spend in the Canyon?  I spent 5 summers in the Canyon on staff. I started my first summer as a Federales counselor, which was a full summer with some great dudes. I’ll never forget it. The next summer I worked in the same cabin with most of the same co-counselors. I came back the third summer as Activities Director at Singing Hills, and learned a lot about myself and leadership, […]

That 70’s Blog: Catching Up with Teri Albright

How many summers did you spend in the Canyon? I started in 1970-72 as a camper, back in the days of Frog’s Airstream by the river; 1973 was my Work Crew summer, and in 1974/5 I was a counselor. I worked alongside Ted Williams for 2 years as a lifeguard and swimming/CPR instructor. Fast forward, and I did my first summer as a Camp Doctor in 1991, when we were still using the back porch […]

Swine ’09

When we think of camp, we think blue skies and laughs. But sometimes it rains or people get sick or someone breaks a bone. This is called a wrench and sometimes one gets thrown into the summer. In the summer of 2009, however, a full on hardware store was plopped on the Canyon when the Swine Flu full-on shut the joint down. We caught up with Kiri Issac who was on Work Crew during that […]
