Welcome, Alumni!

The LLYC Alumni Program exists to help former campers and staff members continue the important relationships and life changes that came about during your summers in the Frio Canyon. We share the mission and vision of The H. E. Butt Family Foundation, which exists to serve God by providing opportunities for people to encounter God for the transformation of daily life, work, and our world.

Audrey Shakra

How many summers did you spend in the Canyon?  I spent two summers when I was in College as a counselor in Cabin G and Cabin I, and then I came back when I was in law school and worked as a cook for a few weeks after a clerkship. What are you up to these days? I’m an attorney in Houston—my practice focuses on education law and I often get to do work with […]

Melissa Kruger Suess: She’s as sweet as her cookies!

LLYC loves Melissa Kruger Suess. She was a long-time camper and now her kids are attending LLYC and LLFC, where her husband (Billy Suess, Regional Director for Young Life) has been the guest speaker at least 5 times. Did we mention she can bake? Yeah, and her cookies are the bees knees. Mel Suess Sugar Cookies was born three years ago. How did it come about? Well, this is what can happen when a friend […]

LLYC Alumni at Laity Lodge

As campers, we are told not to go anywhere near it. The sign on the road to Blue Hole states the even cars must drive quietly. We saw only the beautiful porches overlooking the Frio, but we never really knew what happened at Laity Lodge. Until this weekend. A large and diverse LLYC Alumni group, spanning several decades, descended upon the sacred grounds of Laity Lodge last weekend. The LLYC Alumni Retreat was full in […]

This is Sarah Woolsey — formerly Ridout. I currently live in San Antonio with my husband Bill and 1-year old daughter Micah. We are one of those “camp couples” who met at LLYC and have hilarious photos together of our 6th grade selves. Growing up in Kerrville, there were all kinds of wonderful relationships to the Foundation that were really formative. More than anything, camp expanded my imagination for the creativity of God and brought […]

A Contigo Night for the Books!

Last night Contigo was inundated with diverse ages and personalities from our LLYC Alumni family. We made use of their blankets and fire pit while we exchanged stories and caught up over Alums Ben Edgerton and Andrew Wiseheart’s impressively delicious menu. We laughed until we cried, shifting around the fire on Alum Brian Chilton’s furniture. It was campy and felt like home. Because, at the end of the day and regardless of where we live […]
